Meet The Mother-Daughter Duo Taking Over The Fashion & Beauty Industry

Chances are you have seen Renia Jazdzyk (aka @venswifestyle) on your Instagram feed; her sleek, eclectic and fearless attitude towards fashion has seen her social presence rocket to more than 110,000 followers. Self-described as a ‘Fashion Creative & Ageism Fighter’, Renia is one of the few faces representing the mature consumer within fashion and beauty – a market often underrepresented.

Aside from her incredible style, Renia often posts about skincare brands she loves with an edited and educated eye her followers appreciate, demonstrating how she uses the products and what effect they have had on her skin.

Her daughter, Agnieszka, is the woman behind the lens. Capturing Renia in a way that feels both fun and fresh, Agnieszka is as multifaceted as her mother; part psychologist and part photographer, she is responsible for Renia’s gorgeous social aesthetic – one that fully embraces her mother’s authenticity (sans retouching). We (virtually) sat down with the mother-daughter duo to talk about their collaboration, creativity and how they cultivate meaningful moments together.

111SKIN: What is your story? Why & how did you begin as an influencer?

R: I have always been fascinated by fashion and I have always looked for Instagram accounts with which I can identify not only in terms of aesthetics but also a similar approach to fashion. To be honest I couldn’t find a lot of accounts that belong to mature ladies, I felt like we needed someone who would represent us. I think age is just a number, the goal of my Instagram account is to show to other people that fashion is for everyone regardless of our age. It’s my family that persuaded me to start my account and Ven’s Wife Style was born.

111SKIN: I hear you work with your daughter, or particularly at the beginning – how did that collaboration come about?

R: My daughter has always been very supportive of me when creating my Instagram. She knew and understood my concerns and she helped me to deal with them. She was aware that it would be easier for me to work if there was a person behind the camera who I trust and who is not only my photographer, but also my friend; this is why she is my main photographer. We really enjoy working together.

111SKIN: How has your mother influenced & shaped your life? Particularly as a young woman?

A: I think my mother has been the greatest influence in my life. She taught me how to be a strong independent woman. How to fight for what is important to me and to never give up. My mother is the kindest, bravest and coolest person I have ever met. Whenever I have any problem she is the first person I want to talk with, she is amazing in giving advice.

111SKIN: Have you been locking down together? How has that been?

R: Yes we are and I think this difficult time brought us even closer together. My daughter is a psychologist and she currently works remotely; we still have our own spaces, and at the same time we can spend more time together and enjoy each other’s company.

111SKIN: What moments do you find most meaningful with her?

R: The moments when our common interests and passions evoke our joy.

A: My mother is my best friend, I found all of our time together meaningful! But I think my favourite time together is when we are having a dinner. Chatting about our day, about our plans, talking about fashion and beauty. I will also always cherish all of the trips together, going on holiday or doing such a simple activity as going shopping together.

111SKIN: Have you found motherhood rewarding and challenging?

R: Motherhood is both. It's a challenge because no one is born a parent, you don't become one overnight. Every day you face a new task and try to do your best. Then the moment when you look with pride at your child, at their wise, thoughtful decisions, sensitivity to the needs of others and you are glad that you have someone like that by your side.

111SKIN: What are your ambitions for you both?

R: Our ambitions are related to the work we do together. We want to grow and become better in what we do. A: Yes, my ambitions are very much connected to what I do together with my mum; creating better content and grow her brand. I would also love to become a better photographer!

111SKIN: How will you be spending Mother’s Day?

R: I think that we will spend this day together as always, but differently than before, because we will spend it at home. .. but since my daughter has a gift for making amazing surprises so I'm sure we'll have a lot of fun.

A: This year Mother’s Day will be a bit different as we are spending it at home. Nevertheless I’m sure we will have a lovely time. I’ve ordered a really nice high tea and I have some surprises ready for my mum (like some 111SKIN!)!

111SKIN: Do you find a rituals meaningful? Particularly when shared?

R: Spending time together while pampering – and with a face mask is our personal favourite - is something that me and my daughter celebrate. This is the time for the most intimate conversations, sharing secrets. I have the impression that time flows slower then and we recharge the batteries and are ready for new challenges.

A: Yes! It gives us a possibility to spend time together, chat about things that matter to us. Moments like this are important.

111SKIN: If you could only say one thing to your mother, what would it be?

A: I’m proud of you, you are the best and I love you!

111SKIN: And finally…do you have a favourite product from 111SKIN?

R: I love all of the 111SKIN products… but I must admit Celestial Black Diamond Lifting and Firming Treatment Mask is my favourite. It’s a product I use everything before my photoshoots as I can really see a difference whenever I use this mask. Skin feels softer, plumped and glowing. I’m a big fan and its my beauty must have!

If you were to advise a London guide, what would be on your list?

Well, As I grew up in Notting Hill, it will always have my heart and if I was recommending spots in London, a wander around Notting Hill would be high up on my list. From there it would be all the best shopping destinations, the iconic private members club, Annabels, Harrods and Liberty’s for any cute and unique gifts. I would always pop into 111CRYO at Harrods for the Cryo Facial and treatment for the ultimate recharge. Sometimes the city is great, but the beautiful secrets of the English countryside is something that should be experienced.

Your In-Flight Essentials?

I don’t have a routine per say and I am certainly not as thorough as Naomi Campbell but I would apply the Meso Infusion Lip Duo and I would always wipe my phone down with anti-bacterial wipes, in fact I do this every day, the bacteria build up is no good for the skin.

In terms of Industry, where do you see the hair industry going?

Well Instagram has changed so much and has impacted the way we consume and learn within the industry, especially with so many creatives, but I still find that a massive amount of people come to the professionals to share the knowledge on how to carry out or complete a desired look, more than ever there is power behind ‘how-to’ videos.

A very valid point and in terms of 2020?

In terms of what we are to see in 2020, things are going to be super creative and we will see a wider awareness for people doing their own thing and it will be expressive and artistic. People will move away from the overtly glamorous looks and will create looks they can tailor to their everyday. As it’s currently Award Season which is the busiest time of the year leading up to the Met Ball, hairstyles are certainly more elaborate, and everyone loves an up do. I would say the most timeless look has to be the blunt bob, it comes around year on year, but it is effortless and timeless.

Outside of hair, what other industries are you into?

I am hugely into Interiors and I would describe my style as 60s/70s glamour, think elaborate and dramatic but I often fantasise about 80s Dallas and Joan Collins and I have to reign myself in. I also love Baking; it is the ultimate way to relax and I find that it is my meditation and therapy. If I’m in the USA I would bake a lot of cookies as everyone is obsessed with then over here and in the UK, I would bake more traditional styles like a lemon tart or an apple tart – it allows for me to be creative outside of my job.

Finally, the best advice you have ever received?

It would have to be from my grandfather, he would often say to me “it’s not how well you’re doing but how well people think you’re doing”. I haven’t successfully implemented it however you can look to Instagram today and people see our work and are blown away by it, but we can be so hard on ourselves and not appreciate our own work ourselves.
