5 Minutes With: Lucy Wearing

A British Makeup Artist that grounds her style in fine art, Lucy Wearing cultivates the intricate style aesthetic of beauty with strong connections to the 15th Century. Also working closely with Ellie Goulding on her campaigns, world tours and even creating Ellie’s wedding look, Lucy is an artist that understands and finds beauty in art.
What products are you currently obsessed with?
I absolutely love the Sub-Zero De-Puffing Eye Mask, it’s so good for the red carpet.
Your trustee in-flight essentials?
My main essentials for long haul flights is the Dr Lipp Original Nipple Balm for my lips, a big bottle of water, Neal’s Yard Women’s Health Essential Oil and the 111SKIN Meso Infusion Leave On Hydration Mask and before landing I like to apply the Neom Scent to Boost Your Energy Essential Oil Blend. My skin doesn’t take well to flying and so on top of the Meso mask I apply the Perricone MD No Make Up Foundation to give me colour and a fresh texture to my skin.
Any essential skincare for the road?
It would be anything and everything from the 111SKIN Regenerative Collection because of the amount of travelling and flying, late nights and too much fun can take a toll on my skin. Therefore, the Regenerative Collection is designed to de-puff and revitalise fatigued skin – it’s also great for when you have a teething baby like I do.
Tips for different face types?
I could never answer that so simply, it would be never ending.
A product you would take on a desert island?
Elta MD UK Clear Broad-Spectrum SPF 46.
Your backstage skin secrets?
The 111SKIN Celestial Black Diamond Eye Masks – the perfect 20-minute fix for tired-looking under eyes.
Favourite looks to create?
It would either be an all-out creative editorial where you intuitively throw everything at it and the look gradually emerges and evolves or beauty, enhancing features that find the subtleties of colour and tone found in the skin.

Number 1 rule for skin?
Always wear sunscreen, drink plenty of water and steer away from sugar. Sugar and the sun are the top two culprits for ageing the skin.
Number 1 rule for make-up application?
Use just enough. Too much can be ageing but I do love to see skin so…
Now without too much thought, do you go prefer skin prepping or skin setting?
Instinctively I'd say setting because inevitably time is limited so if I’m setting, I’m nearly done, and the pressure is off and it’s all coming together. But skin prep is the key to a good make up application in the first place and a good time to assess the face your working on – I couldn’t solely decide.
Dewy or mattifying?
When all I’m seeing everywhere is dewy, I go matte. Dewy can look fresher and more youthful and matte more austere.
Brush or blender?
I would have to say fingers and brush. The warmth from your hands can help the foundation blend more seamlessly into the skin instead of sitting on top and brushes are good for buffing the product in and evening out coverage.
Favourite facial feature to work with?
It’s different on every face but I do adore a good brow.
A Nude or bold lip?
This depends on so many things, my personal preference is nude.
Working with Luxury or affordable product?
Make up wise luxury names and packaging don't always make a product better; I use products that I know I can trust regardless of the name that comes with it. Although most of my kit is luxury my fail-safe palette is a small screen face one, its nothing fancy but it looks like something I would have got in my college kit in the late 90s. I do always have luxury skin care though, that’s a non-negotiable.
