ENERGISE YOUR SKIN PRE & POST WORKOUT
By Nateisha Scott
Working from home has its perks – no make-up, little wardrobe effort and your food content readily available but whilst many of us were getting into the spring of things regarding our workouts, the sudden shift in our routines can cause a dilemma with working out. Whilst swapping your gym equipment for a workout mat and your weights for an online video, don’t sacrifice your skincare routine and instead continue to boost your complexion with this edit.
PRE-WORKOUT
You have psyched yourself up and have made it from the sofa to your workout mat or outdoor circuit station, but your workout doesn’t just begin with the body but also with the skin. Whilst warming up and working out it’s important to not forget the skin as a healthy complexion doesn’t start as soon as you’ve finished your workout.
Keep it fresh – It is highly recommended to work out without any make-up on as heavy make-up doesn’t go in hand with perspiration. Make up or any base products left on the skin whilst working out can clog the pores and lead to unnecessary breakouts. If you can, remove your make-up with a gentle make-up remover so you are able to work out with a clean canvas.
Keep it light – Avoid applying heavy hair products before you work out, it is always considered good practice to not only keep your hair out of your face for effectiveness but to not apply heavy hair products that can then clog up your pores. Oily and heavily weighted products travel down the face or back which can often lead to acne across the areas.
Keep it clean – Carefully sanitise your equipment beforehand an ensure you try to avoid touching your face during your workout as this will avoid contamination but wipe down any exposed surfaces before and after to avoid transferring this on the skin.
DURING YOUR WORKOUT
Your heart is racing, your endorphins are at an all-time high and your you have reached your max effort in your circuit. Whilst you work out ensure that you stay bacteria free, stay hydrated and stay vigilant.

DURING YOUR WORKOUT
Your heart is racing, your endorphins are at an all-time high and your you have reached your max effort in your circuit. Whilst you work out ensure that you stay bacteria free, stay hydrated and stay vigilant.
Stay hydrated – It’s one thing to hydrate the body but ensure you hydrate for your skin as well. As hydration levels vary from individual to individual, a general rule is to replenish the lost fluids from your workout, not only recharging the body but it helps to maintain blood volume, regulate body temperature and muscle contraction.
Stay Vigilant – As you are avoiding wiping your face with your hands, having a towel is essential but make sure this isn’t the same towel you are placing all over the floor as this defeats the purpose. One towel for laying down and another for wiping the face, keeping the mix of bacteria at a minimum.
POST-WORKOUT
Cleanse your body – It’s Workout complete and with your body and mind cooling back down, it’s important to cleanse your body straight away. Showering and exfoliating the skin will remove the build-up of excess sweat and oil that could then lead to acne or blemishes further down the line.
