BABY TAYLAH

BABY TAYLAH

BABY TAYLAH

Scottish singer/songwriter, Baby TaYlah is a breath of fresh air for women within the music industry. Amy-Louise Ross coined herself as ‘Baby TaHlah’ at the start of her music career and from there her voice has taken on a world of its own. Described as dark electronica with an angelic yet ominous tone, Baby TaYlah is turning tables and invoking independence within her own career. Setting music aside, we discuss the importance of taking time out and the power of a skincare routine.

SKIN HEALTH

When it comes to my routine and skin health, I spend approximately 15 minutes on my daily skincare routine, but even that can differ. I have to be careful with my skin as it is very dry and sensitive and easily irritated so I mask twice a week with hydrating and cooling sheet masks. The part of my routine that I never forget is to apply my SPF on a daily basis and when removing my make-up, I always remove with an oil before pressing Vitamin E Oil into my skin. Before leaving the house I always ensure that I have applied my SPF, I wear factor 50, even in the winter. For me, it’s so important because I have very fair skin that is prone to sunburn but also sun damage promotes ageing and for that alone, I have to wear it every day.

If I had to choose 3 products from my skincare collection that I couldn’t live without it would be Olive Oil, Celestial Black Diamond Eye Mask and Altruist Sunscreen SPF 50. Olive oil isn’t a targeted skin product as such, and many people think I’m crazy, but I have been taking my make-up off with this for years. I started doing this to stop my eyelashes from being damaged when removing my mascara and it not only removes it swiftly but my eyelashes have also increased in length – I’m asked all the time if my lashes are extensions and I have to say it’s down to Olive oil. For my under eyes, I swear by the 111SKIN Celestial Black Diamond Eye Mask, I have dry skin and my under eyes are my main concern regarding this. Concealer doesn’t gather under my eyes when they are hydrated, and I have found this has only happened after I have applied the eye masks. As a huge advocate for sun damage prevention, the brand that I find works well with my skin is the Altruist Sunscreen SPF 50, its waterproof, non-sticky, fragrance free and has UVA/UVB protection. As I focus on my skin, my only skin concern is that it’s very dry so I switched to a low-carb high fat/protein diet around 5 years ago and this has helped my skin a lot as I had researched that a higher fat diet increases sebum in the skin and this diet preference has been unbelievable for my skin.

WELLNESS

Incorporating wellness into today’s age is super important, personally, for me, wellness is a personal routine which helps maintain my own peace of mind. I go for walks with my dog every day and I would always leave my phone at home making sure that I switch off from the world completely. For self-care I feel that I personally need to take more time to relax at the end of the day, it is so difficult around big projects as I usually edit way into the night which disturbs my usual sleeping pattern. I know this doesn’t have any advantages for my body or skin and is a part of my self-care routine that I am constantly trying to improve.

THE BEAUTY INDUSTRY

The Beauty Industry is such an evolving movement, I enjoy the artistic side of the beauty industry as experimenting with make-up and hair, I find, is a form of escapism. Although a form of escapism, it is saddening to see some of the negativity that surrounds the industry especially when it comes to the expectation of constant perfection - this outlook is so unrealistic. I personally think seeing men and women without make-up is so refreshing and when watching their step by step make-up and skincare routine it is so informative and relaxed and highlights what the industry should be, avoiding the perpetuation of unrealistic ideals. I also would love to see the LGBTQ community being represented in the mainstream beauty industry, we are really lagging behind with this, it’s as though we are stuck in 90s.

MAKE - UP

I do wear make-up, but I try to keep it only on the days that I actually need to wear it. I use the make-up brush set from Girls Meets Brush, which completely changed the way I applied make-up and now I can’t live without it. I am also a big fan of Glossier, I love the Boy Brow in particular and a wee hidden gem is definitely The Natural Collection from Boots, they have the most beautiful brown/rouge lip liner that I have been obsessed with for years.
