Getting Your Perfect Skincare Routine: Dry Skin

Whether you already have dry skin or not, our skin naturally becomes drier as we age. This is because our levels of hyaluronic acid, a water-soluble compound which acts as the glue between cells and draws moisture into the skin, decrease. Dry skin can cause a number of problems, from having a rough feeling texture to making wrinkles look more pronounced and make-up look patchy. If you suffer from dry skin then it may feel uncomfortably tight, and dry flaky patches are not uncommon. You may also find that when the weather gets cooler and drier, your skin becomes worse. This is because harsh cold winds cause tiny cracks to appear on the skins surface, leaving it feeling inflamed and irritated. While you may be tempted to continually slather on rich face creams this is not the answer to dry skin. Instead you need a good skincare routine to target key problem areas and make your skin feel more comfortable.

Cleanser
If you have drier skin then you should opt for a gentle, non-foaming cleanser which won't strip the skin of further moisture. If your skin usually feels tight and uncomfortable after cleansing then you may want to avoid products with harsh chemicals or strong perfumes, which may irritate the skin further. Our Lift Off Purifying Cleanser is suitable for all skin types, eliminating build up from the skin and restoring its natural pH level. Gently wash your skin, and use warm water to rinse away the cleanser as hot water will strip more moisture from the skin.

Exfoliator
Exfoliation is key to achieving smooth, radiant skin. If your skin is drier you may have a build of dead skin cells on the surface making your complexion look dull and lacklustre. Try using our Lift Off Exfoliating Cleanser once a week to banish flaky skin cells. The cleanser contains lactic acid to help slough away dead skin cells and impurities, it is produced naturally in the body so you are less likely to have an allergic reaction to it. You should try to exfoliate in the evening is possible, as this leaves your skin more open to the benefits of serums and night creams

Serum
While a serum is not an additional step which every skin type can take, it is perfect for dry skin. Serums are different to moisturisers in that they transport their potent ingredients deeper in the skin, renewing it from the inside out. Serums not only provide an extra hit of moisture, but they are also designed to specifically target certain skin problems such as dullness or ageing. Our Black Diamond Serum contains crushed diamond particles to transport the potent anti-ageing ingredients to the deep layers of the dermis. It brightens the complexion, targets fine lines and stimulates cell regeneration ensuring that skin stays plump and hydrated.

Moisturiser
This is an essential step for any skin type, but particularly important for drier skin types. When choosing a moisturiser look for one which contains hyaluronic acid, this will draw in moisture and slow down the loss from the skin. Stick to applying moisturiser in the morning and then top up with a night cream before you go to bed, you may feel tempting to reapply throughout the day but too much rich face cream could actually clog up your pores. Our Nocturnal Eclipse Recovery Cream is a great night cream for dry skin types as it contains high levels of hyaluronic acid to protect, capture and retain moisture.

Eye Cream
This is the final step in any good skincare routine. While some people claim that your daily moisturiser works just as well over over your face, we recommend using a targeting eye cream alongside your usual night cream. The skin around your eyes is much thinner than the rest of your face, so is more prone to wrinkles.
