European city breaks
Still not booked a summer trip away? Or looking for a different kind of summer holiday? European city breaks can be a fantastic way to spend a long weekend. Here are our top picks for a European destination holiday, though remember to pack those all-important in-flight essentials.
Capri
Barcelona
Offering both a cultural and historical city, as well as a beautiful beach; Barcelona has everything one could want in a European escape. Walking around the city, incredible architecture is mirrored only by the impeccable food; lose yourself around the historic old town to stumble upon traditional Spanish fare. For something a little more luxurious, head to Frexia Tradicio, a favourite amongst food critics and locals alike. When in Barcelona one must visit Park Guell (Gaudi Park) or set your sights on the Sagrada Familia; a trip to Barcelona is not complete without some Gaudi tourism.
Capri
Not so much a city, but a small town situated on an island sitting just outside Italy; Capri is a must for those wanting sun, sea and relaxation. Away from the tourist trap of big Italian cities, Capri is where the Italians themselves holiday. The food is excellent; seafood being an absolute must-try in any restaurant. Stroll along the beautiful beaches in the evening, gazing up at the town sitting muddled in the rock; or catch the early morning markets for a local experience.
Vienna
A perfect destination for those wanting a real city break; Vienna is both historical and modern, a real collision of worlds. Austria might not be the top of everyone’s summer agenda, but don’t let the cooler temperatures fool you; much like Rome, the stone work of the buildings lock in heat so be prepared for humid weather. Vienese restaurants are incredibly polished and refined; perfect for those after fine dining; Steirereck in Stadtpark is an absolute must-visit, with their head chef creating works of art on the plate.
